Aegis Endorses Rasmussen for Democratic U.S. Senate Race

August 7, 2006. Baltimore, MD. "I am delighted, pleased and gratified by the editorial endorsement of the Harford County Aegis." According to The Aegis, "he will be an excellent Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate from Maryland." On learning of the endorsement from Harford County’s 150 year-old community newspaper, Rasmussen said, "I was particularly gratified by the editorial comment that I was 'far more in tune with the views of the average Harford County voter, regardless of party, than any of the other U.S. Senate candidates.' That has truly been my sense as I've traveled Harford County and met and talked with so many of its citizens."

"Like so many other Marylanders, the voters in Harford County sense that solutions to today's problems and future progress for America will not come from the extremes of either political party. Instead, they are going to come from throwing aside party politics and divisive ideologies that gain nothing but gridlock. The voters," said Rasmussen, "are echoing my message. They want common sense leadership committed to consensus-building and governing from the middle, and that is exactly the choice I offer Maryland voters in the coming election."

In commenting further on The Aegis endorsement, Rasmussen said, "I have long had high regard for the depth and independent thought behind The Aegis. It has a willing ear in listening to a wide variety of viewpoints, but an objective and balanced voice in reporting on news matters. The Aegis also has a good memory. I was highly pleased to see The Aegis recognize my experience as the only candidate with both legislative and executive background."

"The Aegis endorsement noted that I 'worked closely with Harford County officials on projects of mutual interest, among them protection of the shared Little Gunpowder Falls watershed' while I was Baltimore County Executive. That's what I love doing," said Rasmussen "pulling together committed people with common objectives to make things better for everyone. That's governing 'by the people and for the people' and it's governing that works."
